Disable Raspberry Pi Camera Red LED Light

This tutorial will show you how to disable the Raspberry Pi Camera LED light if you currently use the Raspberry Pi cam and want to disable the LED. This tutorial assumes you have connected via ssh to your Raspberry Pi. If you don’t know how to do this check out this tutorial.

1. Open /boot/config.txt

Run this command on your Raspberry Pi:

sudo nano /boot/config.txt

2. Add the disable_camera_led setting

This will allow us to add a  disable_camera_led setting at the bottom of the file. Go to the bottom of the file and add this line:

Note: To get to the bottom of the file in nano you can hit CTRL + V until you are at the bottom (I am on a Mac) but you can use whatever editor you would like. To exit, type CTRL-X and then CTRL-Y to exit the nano editor. You may have to reboot your Raspberry Pi in order to enable the settings.

sudo shutdown -r now
sudo reboot

3. Your Raspberry Pi Camera Disabled the Red LED
